!!WE'RE RANKED #4!!!
*(2/7/99) Sorry folks!, I just got a new teaching position that doesn't have internet access, so I've been unable to bring you updated information about the varsity team. I can say that we have been doing well considering our league is not what it was last year, competitive. Our record now is 22-2, 8-0 in league play and we have moved up to #4 in the county, but more importantly #5 in C.I.F. We have been getting great defensive play out of our team this year. We are now holding opponents team shooting percentage to a meager 39%, 30% from the 3pt arch, and 51 pts/game. Kyle Dodd has had a dunk in each of our 8 league games, one in a half court setting against Savanna (1/28/99) where their defense split like the red sea and Kyle crossed over their point to drive right down the middle dunking on Savanna's big men. On the very next possession, Jerett Skrifvars stole the ball and drove for his very first Varsity dunk, which later was seen on OCN (Orange County News Chanel). We ended up beating the second best team in league by 40, which further indicates our league is not very good, and is why we're looking forward to the playoffs. We hope to get the internet hooked up to the coaches office so I may bring you further updates. Using my mother's aol 3.0 is not going to cut it.
*(1/25/99) All there needs to be said is 11 3's (33 pts) for Sophomore Landon Lewis. Landon's 11 3's tied a Orange County record for 3's in one game. I bet, though, that his 9 3's in the 3rd quarter was a record of some sort. Landon finished the game 11-14 from behind the arch. 10 of Landon's 11 3's came off of a Kyle Dodd assist. Kyle ended the game with 15 pts, 14 assist. Jerett Skrifvars had another double/double (16 pts, 13 reb) for the 9th straight game (13 out of 20 games thus far). We have a tough week coming up with defending Orange League Champs, Magnolia, on Wednesday and the second best team in league this year, Savanna, on Friday (1/29/99).
*(1/21/99) We feel bad beating a team by 54 as we did last night, but we're not going to tell our kids not to play hard. With our 96-42 victory last night, it has now brought us to a 17-2 overall record and 3-0 in league play. We had 5 players in double figure which include Kyle Dodd with 23 pts (9 ast), Sophomore Landon Lewis 12 pts (2 3's), Sophomore Ryan Moore 10 pts, Jerett Skrifvars 18 pts (10 rebs), and Junior Ryan Wilber 13 pts. Utah seems to be really interested in Kyle as an assistant (Brock) stopped by practice on Tuesday to take a peak. Our next game is Friday against Western. Our next game might be just as bad as this one. A couple of weeks ago, Western lost to Loara 73-12. I'm sure the score would have been closer if Western's two best players were there. In any case, we shouldn't have too much trouble.
*(1/18/99) We played our long time rivals, Valencia, on Friday (1/15/99) and came out with a convincing win, 81-45. Valencia hung with us in the first quarter but our defense gave them fits in the second quarter as we held them to only 6pts. Ryan Wilber's 3 3's in the third period put the nail in the coffin as we extended our lead to 60-34. In year's past, no matter how good one team was and/or how bad the other team was, Brea/Valencia games have always been tight. I think we were just too quick and too big for them this time. There were mismatches all over the court. Stand-outs from the game: Kyle Dodd (12 pts, 9 ast) Sophomore shooting guard Landon Lewis (12 pts, 2 3's) Jerett Skrifvars (13 pts, 12 rebs) and our star of the game Ryan Wilber (16 pts w/ 4 3's). Our next game is against a scrapping Anaheim team who gave Magnolia's only lose in league last year.
*(1/14/99) We knew going into last night's game that it would be tough to get a win but we managed to pull away in the 3rd quarter and finish with a 73-59 victory. Ryan Wilber was our defensive star holding Savanna's best shooter to 6-21 from the field. Ryan's 10pts in the first quarter and Landon Lewis' 9pts in the third, including 4pts in the first 30 seconds of the third, seemed to be the difference in the game. Kyle Dodd's 16 assist didn't hurt either. We had trouble with their big men early in the game but once we settled down and started to play solid defense, we were able to maintain their scoring attack. Savanna did an excellent job of shutting down Kyle's scoring output but Kyle's ability to break down any press hurt Savanna because that's Savanna's strength. They try to get you out of your game and into an out-of-control atmosphere. Nontheless, taking away Kyle's scoring output doesn't hurt because we have other guys to step in and take over. Our next game is tomorrow evening (1/15/99)@ 7:30pm against Valencia (See Schedule)
*(1/12/99) Well, south county teams must have it in with the writers because we got dropped again in the rankings to make way for Newport Harbor, who we beat 61-36 in the finals of the Edison Tournament. But, we're ahead of Newport Harbor in CIF Division IIAA rankings. What ever!! The only thing that matters is we run the table in league which will guarantee the best record (percentage) in Brea history. We start league tomorrow against a strong Savanna team at their place. Should be an interesting game.
*(1/6/99) Last night after our game against El Modena, which we won 83-46, Coach Terry, Kyld Dodd, Jerett Skrifvars, and Ricky Boehm spent time at the OCN (Orange County News) studios to talk about our season thus far. Although Kyle was featured, team play and the enjoyment of being around each other was the main focus. Also mentioned was how Brea is in a re-loading year not a re-building one. In past year's on OCN Coach Lloyd talked about how his assistant coaches were a big part of the success of the program, last night Coach Terry talked about how easy the transition was and how well the players have responded. Overall, last night was a big success as we got the recognition we so much deserve.
*(1/5/99) After being dropped from #3 to #7 without losing, we gained a little more respect, being moved up to #4 in the county as of 1/5/99.

On the same night of the rankings, we played one of the best North Orange County teams (Troy) and came out victorious with a 59-47 victory which should solidify us as the best team in North Orange County as we now have beaten both Sonora and Troy. Last night featured the best point guards in orange county (Kyle Dodd and Jerry Inzunzia) and it lived up to it's billing. Jerry Inzunzia scored 22 pts but only scored 4 pts in the second half as we pulled out a diamond and one to make his other teammates beat us. But, our great team defense and Kyle's 24 points helped us contain both Jerry and his teammates.

Another bright spot about last night's game was that Coach Rick Majarus from the University of Utah was there to sneak a peak at Kyle Dodd. He later told Coach Terry that Kyle will definitly get a house visit from the coach. Also attending was the Pepperdine Coach as well as the University of San Fransisco Coach.

*(12/22/98) The Orange County Registar & Orange County Edition to the L.A. Times, have us falling to #3 in Orange County behind the team we beat 61-36 in the finals of the Edison Int'l Tournament. How we're behind a team we hammered will always be a mystery.
*(12/15/98) According to the Orange County Registar & Orange County Edition to the L.A. Times, we were propelled to #2 in Orange County after winning the Edison International Holiday Festival. This tournament included 7 of the top 10 teams in Orange County.
