2003 CIF-SS Division IIA Playoff Bracket Coming in Feburary 2003.

Check Out the 2000 CIF Finals run.

1/25/03, Wow!!, what a game against Villa Park. We played Villa Park on Tuesday evening, who is ranked #8 in Orange County. The word around town is to try and stop Moore and let everyone else beat you. Well, that's exactly what Whitey, Pohlen, Gan, and Jones did. Villa Park went up by 2 mid-way through the 2nd period (22-20) but we then went on a 12-1 run to end the half. We never looked back from then on, beating Villa Park 73-55. We certainly didn't win league on this night but it did put us in the drivers seat. We had huge games from Jason Gan (12 pts, 2 3's), John Pohlen (15pts, 3 3's), Phillip Jones (7 pts, 12 rebs), and Whitey (21 pts, 9 rebs).

Our guards are starting to come into their own. We got great play versus Canyon out of Jason Gan again, hitting 2 more 3-pointers. John Pohlen is back to his old self scoring 18 points with 2 3-pointers. Manny Fierros had a break out game scoring 8 points with 2 3-pointers. And even though they double and triple teamed Evan, he still scored 23 points with 11 rebounds. There is some exciting news to report around the Brea Basketball camp, Brent Smith (Whitey) has committed to attend the Air Force Academy on a partial scholarship where he will play at a prep school for his first year and then join the team the following year.

1/18/03, We had our first games in the new Century league and we came out successful. We beat a tough and well diciplined team in El Dorado (52-49). They probably should have beaten us if it wasn't for a last second free-throw missed by an El Dorado player. They slowed the game down, running the shot clock down to 10 seconds almost every time. The margin of victory would have been more if we just hit our free-throws. We were 2-7 in the fourth quarter, missing 3 front ends of one and one's. Great high school game however. Big crowd on both sides with cheerleaders and a band.

I think we came into Friday night's game too confident against El Modena. I think our guys are reading to much into our rankings and not concentrating on what we need to do. That being said, we did recover in the second half of the game to play the way we should. Final score 77-50. We were only up 6 at half.

Drop whatever you had planned for Tuesday night and head on over to the Brea High School gym. Tuesday (1/21/03)@ 7:30pm, we host Villa Park, who is ranked 10th in Orange County, and is very good. We will have our hands full. We need all the support we can get. Thank you in advance.

1/12/03, We had a very tough week and a half but came out very successful. We beat El Toro 63-54 @ El Toro, we beat Troy 59-55 @ Troy, we beat Gahr 75-60 @ Gahr, and we ended the week with a victory over Crenshaw 78-69 @ the Long Beach State Pyramid. Evan Moore has been solid averaging around 25 points in the last 4 games. Brent Smith has stepped up his game starting at the Troy game. "Whitey" had 18 pts, 13 rebs, and 5 blocked shots. He continued his defensive mastery with 7 blocks versus Gahr and 6 blocks versus Crenshaw. John Pohlen came out of his shell last night putting up impressive numbers. He scored 19 points with 7 assists.

We are now 15-0 heading into league play. The new Century League is much more difficult than the Orange League of the past. We look forward to it though. I've said in the past that rankings mean nothing but I know people like to know where we are. We are currently ranked #2 in Orange County (OC Register), #5 in Southern Section (LA Times), and #11 in California (Calhisports.com). I don't think Brea has ever been ranked in the state before, so I guess that's pretty cool.

1/02/03, Well, we just won our third tournament of the year, which is the first time we've done that in Brea history. We are now 11-0, and still ranked #2 in Orange County and #7 in Southern Section. Those are great but we still haven't played our best ball yet. The word around town is we haven't played anybody. Well, we get our chance tonight against El Toro, who's ranked #4 or 5 in Orange County. Then we play Troy, who's only lost 1 game. Then off to Gahr next Friday and Crenshaw that Satuarday at the Long Beach Pyramid. Rankings are great talk around the water cooler, but it's really about where we're at, at the end of the season and where we stand in CIF. I'm not going to do the individual game by game stats anymore due to lack of time on my part but I will put in team stats. I hope everyone has enjoyed their holidays and I hope to see more people at our games. Thank you to those who have supported us. Happy Holidays.

12/27/02, I know it's been awhile but we've been in Florida. After winning the Glendora tournament, we headed off to Orlando, Florida for a 3 game tournament at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. What an amazing place. Our first game, we came out very sluggish, but turned it on in the second half. The second game was about our guards, Jason Gan, John Pohlen, and Manny Fierros. Our inside game, which we depend on heavily, was being taken away so these guys stepped it up and totalled for 9 3-pointers, including 2 crucial ones late in the game by Jason Gan. In the finals, it was a tail of two games. In the second and fourth quarter, we totalled 11 points. In the first and third, we totalled 37 points, 24 of them in the third. In the second quarter, we didn't even score a field goal, just 6 free-throws. In the last quarter, we managed just 5 points but ended up beating a very good Erie Cathedral Prep from Pennsylvania.

We just started our own tournament with a convincing win over Schurr, 106-58. We play Norwalk tonight which could end up being Coach Terry's 100th win as Head Coach. We then play a underrated but talented La Habra team on Satuarday night at 8pm. See you in the finals. Our current record is 8-0, which is the best start in Brea-Olinda history. Also, if we win our tournament, it will the first time in history that we've won 3 tournaments in one year. Current rankings have us at #2 in Orange County by the OC Register and #8 in sourthern section by the LA Times. This is going to be an exciting year, please join us in the excitement.

12/14/02, What a way to start out the season. Off the tip of our first game this year, Evan Moore throws down a moster dunk in what turned out to be a very close game with Marin Catholic of San Fransisco. We prevailed with a 58-55 victory. We also beat a much improved Saugus team, who we beat last year by 20, who kept it close for much of the game until we hit some crucial free-throws toward the end 79-68. Evan and Brent(Whitey) had huge games. Evan scored 31 points with 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. Whitey scored 14 points with 13 rebounds and 5 blocks as well. Last nights game was against the defending State champions, MLK. We knew they were talented but also young. We took advantage of that by trapping them everywhere on the court. We beat them fairly well, 73-56. Their only bright spot was a guy who hit 7 3-pointers. Other than that, Evan had another strong game with 30 points and 12 rebounds and John Pohlen added 20 points with 4 3-pointers. We play Glendora tonight at 8pm. It should be an exciting game. See you there.

12/03/02, According to the Orange County Registar, we are ranked 3rd in Orange County behind Mater Dei and Villa Park. Rankings mean nothing at this point in the season. It's great to be recognized but it's how you finish that counts. Our first game is coming up on Wednesday, December 11th at 5:00pm versus Marin Catholic from San Fransisco. Please look at our Schedule for future games.

12/02/02, Well, had our scrimmage against Esperanza on Friday morning. It went fairly well, considering we are without 2 starters (John Pohlen and Phillip Jones). It was a battle of big men with both big men on both sides scored at will. Our transition defensive was a little suspect but that will come in time. Unofficially we won by 10 points but that means nothing because both coaches try different things throughout the scrimmage. Our first game will be at the Glendora Tournament, Wednesday, December 11th. Time yet to be determined. Hope to see everyone there.

11/04/02, Hello again. The season is almost upon us (11/16/02) and we're getting excited for it to start. There is exciting news at the Wildcat Camp. Evan Moore, 6'7" 220 lbs, has verbally committed to Stanford on a football scholarship where he will play for Stanford's basketball team as well. We hope the best for him next year in college but we hope the greatest for him in this years basketball adventure. We have only 9 regular season home games this year, so we have to make the most of it with regards to fan support (Schedule)

6/20/02, I'm back!!! Last year was a very tough year for me personally. I was adjusting to the commute from Corona, CA to Brea and couldn't manage the time to update this thing. We have a very exciting year coming up with a new league, lots of trips, and probably the toughest schedule in orange county.

I first want to start with the new league. It is called the Century League and we are joining a tough league which includes El Modena, El Dorado, Tustin, Canyon, and Villa Park.

Next is the great trips we're going to be taking this summer and during the season. Our first trip is next friday, saturday, and sunday were we play in a tournament at Arizona State University. That's right, Kyle Dodd got us in it. We then will play in the Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas at the end of July. Finally, we are going to head to the sunshine state of Orlando, Florida, December 17th - December 22nd.

Finally, our schedule is going to be very tough this year but hopefully it will get us battle tested for the CIF Playoffs. In our schedule, we play in the Glendora Tournament, our Tournament, and the Florida Tournament. We also play Troy at Troy and Gahr at Gahr. We are also entered to play in the north-south extravaganza, where we play a tough El Toro squad. That's not the end of it. We then play in the Nike extravaganza at the Long Beach State Pyramid against Crenshaw. After all that, we have to face the tough Century League.

Hope to see everyone there to cheer us on.
